We were teased with a brief glimpse of Bennett Miller's latest film, Foxcatcher, last fall before it was pulled from the 2013 calendar. Miller wanted to work on the project more, but that small trailer dropping definitely whetted our appetite. A new teaser was recently released, and Foxcatcher has become one of the more anticipated films of the year.
Based on a true story, Steve Carell stars as John du Pont, an Olympic wrestling coach who trains Mark Schultz, played by Channing Tatum. Mark Ruffalo co-stars as Mark's brother, David. I don't exactly know if people are super aware of the story, so I don't know to mention what happens (even though it's based on events that actually happened).
With his prosthetic nose and cool demeanor, Carell is a menacingly quiet presence. His du Pont seems to loom and stare, and I'm sure it's going to be surprising for some audience members to see him in such a dramatic role. It might be my most anticipated performance of the fall. Carell hasn't been really given the opportunity to show off real dramatic chops, and Miller's films are always very performance driven.
