How did I not know that Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner were teaming back up for a new drama?!
The trailer for Dallas Buyers Club debuted today, the renaissance of Matthew McConaughey continues! McConaughey plays Ron Woodruf, a womanizing electrician who discovers that he is HIV-positive in the mid-80's. Woodruf begins smuggling medication through Mexico, and begins his own little drug ring. Jennifer Garner plays a doctor, and Jared Leto glams it up as a drag queen who helps Woodruf.
Back in the beginning of the summer of 2009, McConaughey and Garner starred opposite each other in the biggest piece of supposed romantic crap since Swept Away. Or The Sweetest Thing. Or Over Her Dead Body. Or My Boss's Daughter. Or Say It Isn't So. Or Gigli. Or From Justin to Kelly. That movie was called Ghosts a Girlfriends Past, a "romantic comedy" take on Dickens' A Christmas Carol. What kind of asshole thought up that movie?
I fell asleep during that movie, and I am totally fine not knowing how it all played out.
The trailer for Dallas Buyers Club just debuted, and McConaughey and Garner play opposite each other once again! No time to rejoice, however, since McConaughey plays a womanizer with HIV, and Garner plays a doctor. The trailer, while quite dramatic, hints that they two have a romantic flirtation. Can you imagine the casting director or studio executive trying to pitch the idea?
"Jennifer and Matt were in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past together! My mom loves that movie! We should get them in another movie!!! Wait, what's this about again?"
You should check out the trailer for Dallas, though. It looks really solid. That horrible romantic comedy was the first thing that popped in my head when I saw them together.
This is on my list for the movies to watch this fall. And yes, that list is coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled!
